Russell beta terms

Russell beta · last updated September 2026

What this is

Russell is a personal study assistant for university students, in beta. It is built and operated by Kieran Kilgo, Burlingame, California, as an individual — not a company. By using Russell you are agreeing to what is written on this page.

Your account

  • An account is personal: it is yours, for your own coursework. Do not share it.
  • Keep your sign-in details to yourself, and tell us if you think someone else has them.
  • Use Russell for your own studying, and follow your school's rules while you do.
  • Only record a lecture when you have permission to record it. Russell asks you to confirm that before your first recording.

Your content is yours

Your recordings, transcripts, notes, tasks and messages belong to you. Russell stores and processes them to run the features you are using, and for nothing else — it does not sell your data or use it to train models. How Russell handles your data explains what is stored, who processes it, and how to delete it.

Text messages

Texting is optional. Russell only texts a mobile number that you typed in yourself and confirmed with a 6-digit code, and you can stop it at any time by replying STOP or by removing the number in Settings. How Russell's texts work governs those messages. Message and data rates may apply.

Cost

There is no fee for the beta today. If that ever changes you will be told first, and nothing will be charged without you agreeing to it.

This is a beta

Russell is still being built. Features can change, break, or be removed, and the beta can end. Please keep your own copy of anything you cannot afford to lose. You can stop using Russell whenever you like; an account can be closed on request, and an account may be closed if it is being used to harm someone or to break these terms.
